Wolfeboro, The Oldest Summer Resort in America.
The town was named Wolfeborough in honor of General Wolfe, the British general who conquered the French at the battle for Quebec in 1759.
The name was changed to Wolfeboro in 1895.
Wolfeboro has become known as The Oldest Summer Resort in America by
virtue of the fact that New Hampshire's
colonial Governor, John Wentworth built a summer home on the shores of what is now called Lake Wentworth before
the revolutionary war.
Wolfeboro is a charming town located on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee,
which provides a broad range of year-round activity. It is, by far, the most attractive town in the Lakes Region,
which is the reason that many people, after visiting here, have chosen to make this their primary residence or
frequently visited vacation home. Wolfeboro people are known for their friendly spirit and work together to
create a warm community with any number of cultural and recreational activities. Truly a special place.
